LE LOCAL in MOntreal, not impressed

If it wasn't for the great company I had, I would have not been happy at all. I went to LE LOCAL for dinner in Old Montreal. Apparently this is the place to be for dinner. Yes, the space is beautiful and airy with exposed brick and all that fancy stuff - and an open kitchen which I often enjoy and trust. However, even though, yes, the food was yummy, the service left us forgetting about the food and only concentrating on how much we paid. What a shame.
We asked for suggestions from the waiter who simply said what he likes best, no questions as to our expectations, likes or wants. He told us the special was sweet bread, whats that?

I then decided, since we were located right next to the kitchen and prep tables, to pop my head over and ask for their suggestions. They looked at me as if I had just told them their car was side swiped. They barely had answers for me, and when I asked what their specialties were or what they can't keep in stock, no answers at all. There was NO way to get an answer.

I settled on the salmon tartar with truffle oil as a starter. Was good, but I didn't taste the truffle oil at all. The duck leg was yummy, but when I had to pop my head over to the kitchen again for something spicy to add, lets say they chop up some chillies and add some olive oil and herbs, they passed me a plastic bottle of Chinese hot sauce and Tabasco. Not sure I felt like ruining my dinner with those - and they shouldn't have wanted me to.

In all of this, we had four waiters, nobody concentrating on us and knowing what we had or wanted. Yes, the wine was good, but we did the pouring and clearing of space. One waiter was a little more impressive, but overall, our final discussion was IF we should even tip.

Sad ending to a delicious night.
